Mya’s Dreamy Vintage 21st Birthday Shoot – A Belle Meade Session

Some shoots just hit different, and Mya Georgie’s 21st birthday session was exactly that. A celebration of confidence, joy, and pure ✨vintage✨ energy, this shoot reminded me why I love working one-on-one with clients who bring their full selves and trust me with their vision.

Mya, a track and field athlete at Vanderbilt University, texted me before the shoot saying she wanted something “very vintage” with a “cute lil green vibe.” With just those two messages and her amazing creative spirit, we brought that vision to life.

We started at Saky’s Stu, my cozy home studio in Nashville, and then headed to one of my favorite nearby parks in Belle Meade for golden hour shots. The entire vibe was personal, playful, and glowing. Mya wore a stunning long yellow dress that made her look like sunshine in human form. She brought gold “1” and “2” balloons, a huge sunflower bouquet, and a custom heart-shaped birthday cake in pale yellow with dainty pink bows. Every detail was thoughtful and made the session perfect for her.

But what stood out even more was her trust. There were a few moments where she felt unsure—she’d ask, “Are you sure this pose looks okay?” or say she felt a little nervous. I kept encouraging her, showing her previews on my camera, and with each shot, you could see her confidence grow. Her body language changed. Her smile softened. She leaned into the moment—and that's when the magic really happens. When the photos start to truly reflect someone’s inner light.

Even if a pose feels silly or outside your comfort zone, give it a try. Often, those end up being the most stunning photos.

Mya also brought her Canon G7X Mark III, and I helped capture additional clips for her. I scanned Polaroids we took so she’d have digital copies to keep, and my assistant Harmony helped record adorable BTS footage using a VHS camcorder and a 2000s handy cam—which brought the exact nostalgic, vintage energy we wanted.

After the shoot, Mya texted me:

“I just want to say thank you 💖💝💞💕💘💗🩷 I know it’s not my birthday yet but ugh today was so much fun !!!!!!!!!!! Made me whole month.”

And that’s what I live for as a photographer.
